de Jazz where we feature the new recording by Joachim Kühn, Majid Bekkas
and Ramón López trio, Chalaba. During the show we conducted a
lengthy interview with Joachim Kühn and Majid Bekkas.
Joachim Kühn (Leipzig, 1944) is one of
the most relevant names in the European
Jazz scene since the sixties. He escaped
in 1966 from the German Democratic
Republic and has lived and played also
in the United States. During his long
career he has played with musicians of
the caliber of
Daniel Humair, Ornette Coleman, Michael
Brecker as well as his brother, the clarinetist
Rolf Kühn, in a very differents Jazz
styles. Joachim Kühn resides in the spanish
island of Ibiza.
Majid Bekkas was born in Salé (Morocco)
where he started his musical career in
1972. Bekkas studied classical guitar
and oud at the National Conservatory of
Music and Dance in Rabat and in the
nineties he created the Gnaoua Blues
Band. Starting in 1996 with his first
Jazz concert with European musicians in
Rabat, he
has played with musicians like Peter
Brötzmann, Hamid Drake and Louis Sclavis,
among others.
He continues to live in Salé.
