  FRED HERSCH
November 2011

A special edition of the Spanish Jazz radio show Club de Jazz where we conducted a lengthy interview with Fred Hersch.

Born in 1955 he is one of the great piano masters. Hersch is part of the New York scene since he arrived there in the late 1970s where he played with such musicians as Joe Henderson, Stan Getz, Sam Jones and Art Farmer and recorded  his debut album Horizons in 1985 along with Marc Johnson and Joey Baron. A respected teacher of musicians like Brad Mehldau, Ethan Iverson and Jason Moran and really sensitive and creative musician, Hersch spent several weeks unconscious in the hospital due to AIDS-related complications in 2008. We had our conversation in the backstage of the 'Fernán Gómez' theater in Madrid a few minutes before his trio concert along with John Hébert and Eric McPherson.

The interview, which was broadcast originally on November, 23th 2011, can be heard here.
