lengthy interview with Charles Lloyd.
Born in 1938 is one of the freest musicians in the jazz scene. He
started playing in his hometown of Memphis as a teenager and went to
California in 1956 where he now resides. In the sixties he was the
musical director of Chico Hamilton´s group and also was part of the
Cannonball Adderley sextet. Charles began to record as a leader in
1964 and in 1967 he was playing in the Soviet Union after his big
success in the Monterey Jazz Festival one year before. In the
seventies Charles lived in exile in Big Sur and he didn´t return to
the stage until french pianist Michel Petrucciani appeared in his
life. In 1989 Lloyd started his prolific relation with the German
label ECM, where he presents now "Athens concert", a live recording
with the Greek singer Maria Farantouri.
