  CHARLES LLOYD
October 2011

A special edition of the Spanish Jazz radio show Club de Jazz where we conducted a lengthy interview with Charles Lloyd.

Born in 1938 is one of the freest musicians in the jazz scene. He started playing in his hometown of Memphis as a teenager and went to California in 1956 where he now resides. In the sixties he was the musical director of Chico Hamilton´s group and also was part of the Cannonball Adderley sextet. Charles began to record as a leader in 1964 and in 1967 he was playing in the Soviet Union after his big success in the Monterey Jazz Festival one year before. In the seventies Charles lived in exile in Big Sur and he didn´t return to the stage until french pianist Michel Petrucciani appeared in his life. In 1989 Lloyd started his prolific relation with the German label ECM, where he presents now "Athens concert", a live recording with the Greek singer Maria Farantouri.
